New Club Med Resort in the Dominican Republic

Club Med is building a new 93 acre $100 million Club Med resort in the Dominican Republic.

From Hotel Management:

“Resort owner and operator Club Med is set to open its second resort in the Dominican Republic later this year in Miches, approximately a 90-minute drive from its 40-year-old sister property in Punta Cana.

At 93 acres, the $100 million Club Med Michés Playa Esmeralda will be Club Med’s biggest project of its type in the Caribbean in the past 40 years, and the first full Exclusive Collection resort in the Americas, serving as the new flagship of the dedicated line in the region. The Exclusive Collection makes up the top 10 percent of the brand’s portfolio, and includes the Finolhu Villas in the Maldives, the recently opened Cefalù resort in Sicily and the Valmorel Chalets in Valmorel, France.”

Marriott St Croix Resort Re-Opening in the Virgin Islands

This is great news for the St Croix resort and hotel business….

An historic Caribbean resort is set to make its long-awaited comeback next year, Caribbean Journal has learned.

Marriott’s Renaissance St Croix Carambola Beach Resort and Spa is set to return in the spring of 2022, according to the company.

The property is currently undergoing renovations, and will be managed by fast-expanding management firm Aimbridge Hospitality upon its return next year.

352 New Hotels in Mexico by 2023

According to CBRE the Mexico resort market is still on fire. In the next three years there are plans for 352 new hotels and resorts in Mexico.

“Marriot, the NH Group, Hoteles Misión and the Intercontinental Hotels Groups have, in that order, the next most ambitious plans. The four chains will collectively open around 150 new hotels over the next three years.”

Margaritaville Developing a Resort in Belize

This is another great development for the Belize resort business. This story is from Hotel Management magazine with their exclusive on Margaritaville developing a resort on Ambergris Caye. “Hotel Management on Thursday learned resort hotel brand Margaritaville is developing a new property on Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island. Rick Cunningham, VP of hotel development at Margaritaville, told HM his company took over construction of a previously abandoned development on Ambergris Caye’s north shore and is repositioning it as a Margaritaville resort, utilizing the site’s seven existing buildings that reportedly were under development as a hotel. The VP could not confirm the number of guestrooms that would be finessed out of the existing structures.”

Hurricane Ravaged Caribbean Hotels are Making Glamorous Comebacks

Tiny Dominica’s recovery has been slower than that of some of the larger islands — it sustained $1.3 billion in damage — but its main attractions, including its beloved hiking paths and dive sites, have been cleared. When the secluded Secret Bay (pictured) begins accepting guests in November, its six restored villas will be accompanied by a new on-site restaurant and a wellness pavilion, complete with a yoga deck and luxurious treatment rooms. Citrus Creek Plantation will welcome back guests in December with fully renovated cottages along the Taberi River.
